The new autonomous museum
As part of the Franceschini reform, launched in 2014, at the beginning of 2016 a Ministerial Decree established 10 additional autonomous museums: among these, the Monumental Complex of the Pilotta, which from that moment on will unite under a single management the National Gallery, the National Archaeological Museum and the Palatina Library.
In February 2017, the selection process for the new director was completed: the role was assigned to Simone Verde who, thanks to substantial funding, began a significant renovation of the spaces and exhibition routes, which was completed in autumn 2023.
