From 11 June until 8 November 2026, one of Bartolomeo Schedoni’s two works depicting The Last Supper will be on display at the exhibition Il Dialogo at the Casa delle Esposizioni in Illegio (UD).
The two ‘Last Supper’ paintings
Both works, dating from around 1611, raise questions regarding their chronological order: it is, in fact, difficult to determine which of the two was painted first. Two interpretations of the same scene that maintain the same arrangement of the figures, but differ in their treatment of space: one focuses the viewer’s gaze on the group of main figures, whilst the other opens up the perspective more widely, allowing us to take in the entire architectural setting and the figures in their entirety.
Schedoni, an artist who often favours extreme close-ups, reveals here a surprising talent for composition, experimenting with two different ways of depicting the same subject.
Whilst one of the two versions will remain on display until 8 November 2026 at the Casa delle Esposizioni in Illegio (UD), as part of the ‘Dialogo’ exhibition, the other can now be admired up close thanks to the new layout of the gallery dedicated to the artist.
