The painting “Madonna and Child,” attributed to the workshop of Anthony van Dyck and dated between 1620 and 1630, became part of the collections of the Pilotta Monumental Complex in 1820.
We know only its recent history, but the distinctive composition, featuring the softly drooping figure of the Child in opposition to the upward-facing Virgin, recalls other works by the artist created during his stay in Palermo, documented between 1624 and 1626.
The work will be on display from March 20 to July 19, 2026, at the Palazzo Ducale in Genoa, as part of the exhibition “Van Dyck the European – The Journey of a Genius from Antwerp to Genoa and London,” the largest exhibition dedicated to the master Anthony van Dyck in the last 25 years.
