From March 15th to June 15th, 2025 Jan Soen‘s Creation of Adam (inv. 274/1) and Peter Mulier’s (known as the Tempesta) Vallata nel temporale and Joseph Rebell‘s Burrasca al chiaro di luna nel Golfo di Napoli will be on loan to the National Gallery of Umbria in Perugia for the exhibition Fratello Sole, Sorella Luna. Nature in Art, between Beato Angelico, Leonardo and Corot, conceived on the occasion of the VIII centenary of the composition of the Canticle of the Creatures by St. Francis of Assisi, one of the first poetic texts in volgare but also the first manifestation of a renewed relationship with Nature.
The exhibition, curated by Costantino D’Orazio, Veruska Picchiarelli, and Carla Scagliosi under the patronage of Umbria Region and the Municipality of Perugia, the support of the Committee for the celebrations of the eighth centenary of the death of St. Francis of Assisi and the contribution of the Perugia Foundation, presents more than eighty works by some of the most celebrated artists in the history of Italian and European art whose masterpieces mark the turning points at which the figurative arts have addressed and reflected man’s relationship with Nature over the centuries.
The intent is to give an in-depth and evocative account of the different nuances with which Creation has been observed by human sensibility and reinterpreted in artistic vision.
