The event

The meeting will offer the opportunity to return to the city the result of the archaeological excavations conducted in Piazza Ghiaia for the construction of the underground parking, through the testimony of the archaeologist who directed the construction site, Dr. Cecilia Pedrelli.
Starting from the history of the square and the origins of the name, the genesis of the construction site will be explained and the difficulties encountered during the excavation carried out with frontal advancement and not according to stratigraphic methodologies. Dr. Pedrelli will then illustrate the extraordinary archaeological finds and findings that have come to light, important evidence of the frequentation and use of the Parma torrent and its banks in Roman times. Among these, the astonishing discovery of a votive hoard will be explored, which highlights the probable existence, already in the Republican era, of a sacred place in the center of the torrent at an ancient ford.
