The theme of breath as spirit and breath of the soul, present since ancient times in Judeo-Christian thought and in the scriptures, also finds numerous translations in painting from an iconographic point of view. Sacred conversations, announcing angels, heavenly choirs, silent prayers of saints, metaphor of the divine principle that animates with its vital breath the entire created world and human existence, are just some examples of a spiritual “journey” that, through the presentation of the different subjects depicted in the works of the National Gallery, will involve the participants in an artistic experience and knowledge of the cultural heritage of the Pilotta Complex rich in meaning.
